Testing Adsense Site with Addiction Info

Wednesday, 28 March 2007 12:04
I started a site to test the viability of a website of articles, with Google Ads on it.

The site was actually pre-made for me. Someone had wrote a bunch of articles and put it together in a simple package to make it easy to manage. The site is about different addictions, at AddictionGuides.com.

Chat vs Forums

Sunday, 25 March 2007 19:00

I've been finding some confusion among people over Chat versus Forum.

It seems that some people use Chat room interchangeably with Forum and Bulletin Board. I guess it's due to discussions being done on a forum, which some might see as chatting.

In computer/Internet terms, chat is instant. Like Instant Messaging. It's transient. Like speaking on the phone, the words are gone once they leave your mouth. With a Chat Room, the text may stay visible for a minute, an hour, or a couple days, depending on how busy it is. But it is not lasting.

Phishing and Fraud Attempt

Monday, 19 March 2007 03:55

They are good. The Bad Guys, I mean. They create official looking emails that look exactly like your banks email. But, of course, since they are 'Bad Guys', any info you give doesn't get to the bank. Well, eventually it does when they use YOUR info to get YOUR money.

Here is the latest example I received last week:

Bank Of America Alert: Online Access Suspension Message

Bank of America Higher Standards
(note the official logo coming directly from the bank's website)

QuickBooks file repair

Wednesday, 21 March 2007 05:51

Like many small companies, we use Quickbooks to handle the business accounting. I had a recent issue with my QuickBooks file. Long story of a corrupted file a couple years ago, then started using the Archive backup file. I won't bore with all the details of how it got corrupted.

I finally got tired of seeing the error message of ‘can’t archive’ and ‘verification failed’, even though other Verification tests and Rebuilds passed. After a few days of research, and then a couple hours on the phone with Intuit tech support, I got nowhere. I did not like wasting hours with this issue, and was about to just live with it for another year.

Then I realized, 5 years from now, I’m going to have no way to archive the older data. So, it’s not much of an issue now, but by 2010, I’ll have some huge file of data going back 5 years that I simply don’t need. I decided to get it fixed properly.

Outlook 2007 slow. So very very slow

Wednesday, 07 March 2007 06:29

Wow. Many lost hours on switching to Microsoft Outlook 2007. Brand new Dell Notebook, with Vista. New install of Microsoft Office 2007. Everything seemed great, but Outlook was a bit sluggish. I thought it had something to do with indexing. I tried everything I could think of, turning off features like Aero, Indexing, Screen Thumbnails, reducing resolution. I researched hours at a time looking for a solution. It seemed a lot of people are having this issue.
