Ever notice how a lot of spam comes through with just First Names?
Spammers like to use this technique because everyone probably knows a Joe, John, Mary.

However, I'm sure that while you are quickly scanning through 100 junk emails on Monday morning, you are pretty much ignoring most of those First Names, even if it's your sister's name.

Uh oh. How does YOUR name display in your emails? Is it Spam Like?

Most 'real' email programs allow you to adjust your settings to look more professional.  I said most, you silly folks still using AOL.   AOLer's are stuck with  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as their Display.

For the rest of us, you don't want your Display Name on your email to look like this:

  • This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
  • Or  Bill <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>

A much better display would be:

  • Brian Shea <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
  • Sage Info <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
  • Seven Sages Web Management <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
  • Seven Sages Billing Department <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
  • Seven Sages - Brian Shea <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>

You get the idea?
The Display Name gives you an opportunity to show who you are at a quick glance.

Check your email program and edit your Mail Account Settings to make sure your Display Name announces you properly.

It's certainly not necessary. I figure you don't want to look like spam, do you?
Just a tip. :)
